About 8 oz.

Some photo’s from “The Prophet Mine”at Kilkivan, Queensland.

The large nugget in the middle of the pan, goes 2 ounces, the one above, over 1.5 ounces. The two pieces below the big nugget, make up the third nugget found in the same days run of material. The nugget was wedged in the machinery, and broke on removal. The other large pieces in the pan, have all been found over the last few years, and all together make quite the impressive picture. With the fine gold in the pan, about 8 ounces.  Six and a half hours panning. Seeing gold glinting in the sun, does make you believe this is the greatest hobby one could have. Please do visit the Prophet mine on line, the owner has some interesting ideas on the formation of gold, along with the photos it makes an interesting site(www. prophetau.com).

About ivoradventures

Lives Brisbane north. Age 47. Male. Interests-heaps of stuff. Camping, fishing, and gold panning, keeps me quite busy. I still find time to cook, and spend time family and friends. I truly enjoy my daughters company(Shannon), but don't see enough of her since she moved out. There is a certain type of beauty that exists only in the wild places, and it calls to you. Go and explore! And drag someone with you.

Well Ivor, according to the owner of the mine; there is not a quarter ounce of gold within 50ks of Kilkivan!

  2. The locals don’t want anyone on their property. All the anger gets put on the owner of the Prophet. He’s trying to dissuade people from going onto private land without permission.
