Smelter Chimney

Kilkivan township near Gympie, has several sites worth visiting, one of which is the chimney, built by Chinese copper miners. The copper smelter at Mt. Clara was built in 1872. The drive to the chimney is worth the effort in it self. The road crosses picaresque Fat Hen Creek many times by concrete causeway, until two very small water crossings near the chimney. You will pass the old chinese market garden site on the way. Signage to the site is very poor( It’s not signed at all, I almost turned around, thinking I’d missed it altogether. In fact, my friends were turning around when I saw them.) Always a good idea to pay attention to signs you may find along the way.
  Until next, happy adventures.

About ivoradventures

Lives Brisbane north. Age 47. Male. Interests-heaps of stuff. Camping, fishing, and gold panning, keeps me quite busy. I still find time to cook, and spend time family and friends. I truly enjoy my daughters company(Shannon), but don't see enough of her since she moved out. There is a certain type of beauty that exists only in the wild places, and it calls to you. Go and explore! And drag someone with you.
